The Ministry of Economics, the Ministry of Climate and Energy, the Latvian Rural Forum, and the Elektrum Energy Efficiency Centre invite you to participate in the informational webinar “Electricity Generation for Self-Consumption: Energy Communities”, taking place on 30 October 2025.
The aim of the event is to promote public understanding of opportunities to generate electricity for self-consumption within energy communities, highlight potential benefits, and provide insights into the current regulatory framework, technical solutions, and planned support instruments.
Minister for Climate and Energy Kaspars Melnis emphasizes:
“New, energy-efficient technologies are becoming an integral part of our daily lives, offering opportunities to obtain cheaper energy or use it more efficiently. Many companies and private homeowners are already taking advantage of these opportunities. To expand the use of new technologies, we have developed a regulatory framework for energy communities — a way for people to join forces to produce green energy for their own needs, share it with neighbours, and strengthen their regions. It is gratifying to see that people in Latvia are beginning to trust this model, joining efforts to implement sustainable solutions that promote energy independence.”
The webinar will cover key aspects of electricity generation for households, businesses, and multi-apartment buildings — from the legal framework and principles of energy community operation to practical implementation and fire safety requirements. Participants will also learn about the new support programme, opportunities to purchase electricity from energy communities, and energy storage (battery) solutions.
Speakers will include Minister for Climate and Energy Kaspars Melnis, as well as experts from the Ministry of Climate and Energy, the Ministry of Economics, AS “Sadales tīkls”, the Consumer Rights Protection Centre, the Latvian Association of Power Engineers and Energy Constructors, AS “Latvenergo”, and others.
