UX and accessibility and House Case improvements in BIS

alt="" Published Friday, 17 October 2025

From October 17, several usability and accessibility improvements are available in the Building Information System (BIS), along with updates in the “House Matters” section.

Usability and Accessibility Changes

Font Updates
The font on the BIS informational website and within the system has been changed from Bebas Neue to Roboto (fallback font: Arial). Font size, weight, and color have been adjusted according to accessibility principles, including changing the green font color to dark gray/black for better contrast.

Construction Project

  • Improved access to coordination, editing, and approval actions.
  • Enhanced status visibility within the Construction Project.
  • Added the ability to review related (unfinished) intention submissions and navigate to them to complete the preparation process.

Construction Work Log

  • Users can now switch between entries in all sections of the work log without returning to the main list.

Search Block and Buttons

  • Improved search functionality.
  • Updated button styles across the system with three levels:
    • Primary button – highlighted, easily visible, for critical user actions.
    • Secondary button – less prominent, for important but non-critical alternatives.
    • Tertiary button – least prominent, may appear as a link, for less important or rarely used actions.

Notifications

  • Added the ability to search by construction case number in the Notifications section.

Construction Case List

  • A new column has been added. If a case is linked to multiple addresses, a “View More” link is shown, which expands the case entry in detail, similar to the case number column.

User Profile

  • Design elements and data blocks have been organized for easier viewing, especially on mobile devices.

Accessibility Enhancements

  • Improved user awareness of location within the BIS portal (enhanced icons and navigation links on the website and system, improved site design).
  • Introduced breadcrumb navigation on the BIS website and system.
  • Added an alternative color scheme option (black/yellow toggle).
  • Improved user awareness of external links (informative message about the destination site, with the option to proceed).

👉 Informational material for users about the changes is available (in Latvian language)!

Improvements in the “House Matters” Section

  • Changes made to the Exploitation and House Matters list.

  • Enhancements to authorizations and delegations.

  • Updates to the integration and display of decisions made outside BIS in BISP.

  • Introduced control over the indication of electronic voting results.

  • Several improvements to visual inspection functionality:

    • Configuration of visual inspections.
    • Section for visual inspection reports, report creation, and available actions.
    • Section for recorded damages and logs from visual inspections.
  • Improvements in House Matters notifications.

  • Enhancements in monitoring, contact information storage, and more.
