Jury to Evaluate the Most Energy-Efficient Buildings in Latvia
Published Monday, 18 August 2025On Friday, 15 August 2025, the evaluation of the buildings submitted to the competition “The Most Energy-Efficient Building in Latvia 2025” began. The jury will visit and assess 23 energy-efficient buildings in 10 Latvian cities.
On 15 August, the jury inspected three renovated multi-apartment buildings in Stende (Nākotnes iela 26) and Jelgava (Kastaņu iela 2a, Pasta iela 34), as well as one public building – a student dormitory (Prohorova iela 11, Jelgava) – and an industrial building – Caljan LSEZ SIA (Brīvības iela 142A).
On 22 August, the jury will inspect four buildings in the Vidzeme region: a single-family house (Bebrīšu iela 10, Inčukalns); an industrial building/warehouse in Gulbene (Zaļā iela 3); and three renovated multi-apartment buildings in Valka (Semināra iela 6, Raiņa iela 5, Rūjienas iela 6).
On 26 August, the jury will evaluate four public buildings – the Multifunctional Service Centre (Skolas iela 4, Ikšķile), the National Centre for Mental Health Multifunctional Outpatient Centre (Tvaika iela 2, Rīga), the structural unit “Septītais bērnudārzs” of Salaspils Preschool No. 2 (Rubeņu iela 2A, Salaspils), and the Elemental office building (Skanstes iela 25, Rīga) – as well as one renovated multi-apartment building in Riga (Vecmīlgrāvja iela 17 k-3).
On 29 August, the jury will conclude the on-site evaluations, inspecting eight objects – a newly built multi-apartment building at Raņķa dambis 5, Riga (Nameja Residence), one renovated multi-apartment building in Riga (Kristapa iela 18), two shopping centres – Damme and Rīga Plaza – and the Mārupe Music and Art School (Mazcenas aleja 39, Jaunmārupe). The jury will also assess a warehouse building (Krūzes iela 17) and two single-family houses in Mārupe (Pededzes iela 18, Penkules iela 50).

About the Competition “The Most Energy-Efficient Building in Latvia”
For the 15th year, the competition “The Most Energy-Efficient Building in Latvia” is announced within the framework of the campaign “Live Warmer”. Its aim is to promote good practices in building energy efficiency and sustainability by implementing energy-efficient construction, renovation, and reconstruction projects, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions and raising public awareness about well-being, building thermal performance, indoor climate, as well as the importance and possibilities of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in creating a high-quality, architecturally expressive living environment.
Applications for the 2025 competition were accepted until 18 June 2025. A total of 36 buildings were submitted across five categories. The awards ceremony for the competition winners is planned for September this year.
The competition is organised by the Ministry of Economics, the Ministry of Climate and Energy, and the Latvian Association of Civil Engineers. The regulations were developed in cooperation with the partners of the information campaign “Live Warmer” – the Latvian Association of Property and Facility Managers, the Latvian Association of Window and Door Manufacturers, Riga Technical University, Riga Stradiņš University, the Building Materials Manufacturers Association, the Latvian Association of Heating, Gas and Water Technology Engineers, the Sustainable Building Council, the State Construction Control Bureau, the State Fire and Rescue Service, SIA “Possessor”, the Rural Support Service, AS “Sadales tīkls”, the Central Finance and Contracting Agency, and the Energy and Environmental Agency.
The competition is co-financed by EU funds. Its supporters include SIA Paroc, SIA Saint-Gobain Building Products, SIA Rockwool, the Development Finance Institution Altum, AS Latvenergo, VentSys, Rīgas Siltums, AS Sadales tīkls and SIA Robert Bosch. The competition’s media supporters are the magazine Būvinženieris, the newspaper Latvijas Avīze, and the construction portals abc.lv, archidea.lv, and building.lv.
